Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations
Established in 2001, the .NAME top-level domain name extension is the sole TLD supposed to be for personal sites only. These domains can be personal or fictitious names, aliases and/or other labels people are famous by. At first, only third-level registrations were permitted, so if you planned to register john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already purchased third-level domain names remained running.
